Washington DC Alumni Reunion
The Washington D.C. Alumni Reunion took place on September 26th, 2006 in the Russell Senate building at the U.S. Capitol. Southern Utah University (SUU) and their Eastern alumni chapter leaders hosted the event in cooperation with Secretary Michael Leavitt and his wife Jackie. Approximately 150 alumni from SUU, BYU, UVSC and the University of Utah attended the event. The group was honored by a visit from Senator Orrin Hatch as well as other dignitaries with Utah connections. UVSC Alumni represented several generations of graduates, ranging from those who left college in the eighties to some who graduated just last year. Their current positions were just as varied as their backgrounds; law student, financial manager, Wall Street exec, and even general counsel for a senate office. They enjoyed meeting each other and reminiscing about their UVSC experiences while sharing their current situations. UVSC Alumni Director Jeri Allphin attended the event to welcome alumni and thank them for attending. Several alumni expressed interest in forming a Northeast Alumni Chapter. The Alumni Office is supportive of the idea and will attempt to formalize something in the near future. Interested alumni living in the northeast should contact the alumni office, either through e-mail or the online community. Because of the success of the event this year and two years ago, SUU hopes to hold it again next year.
